Shaina Morrison, a University student, performed an interpretive dance to Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit” at the final Day of Dialog event “Urban Politics”, sponsored by In Touch Arts on Wednesday, October 24. The song represents racial oppression and public lynching in America. The piece holds particular significance due to the noose incidents at the Hempstead Police Department and Roosevelt, Long Island.
